The Indlaw Guide to Citation

A newspaper article should be cited as:

Akshaya Mukul, Left sticks to guns, but may give time, The Times of India, August 20, 2007, at 1.

In case it is an editorial, you have you write (Editorial) after the name and before the article heading separated by commas

An article that is part of a journal should be cited as:

Leslie A. Cochran, Is the Shrinks Role Shrinking, 30 CONN. L. REV. 157 (1997).

In case of a journal article citation, it should be cited first by the author and title of the article, then by the title of the journal, the volume and issue number, the date and the pages. In a footnote you should include the specific page of the passage you are citing. An issue number is not absolutely necessary, as long as the journal's pages are numbered continuously throughout all the issues in a given year. If each issue begins again with p.1, an issue number is necessary.

A book should be cited as:

S C SARKAR, CIVIL PROCEDURE CODE (Sudipto Sarkar ed., Nagpur: Wadhwa and Company, 2006) (533).

A book citation should contain the author's full name, the title of the book, the place of publication and publisher's name. In a footnote, the specific page of the passage cited should also be included.

An article found on the internet should be cited as:

J.T. Westermeier, Ethical Issues for Lawyers on the Internet and World Wide Web, 6 RICH J.L. & TECH. 5, 7 (1999), at
http://www.richmond.edu/jolt/v6il/westermeier.html (Mar. 12, 1999).
