SC to hear centre’s response on black money

The Supreme Court will hear tomorrow the response of the Centre regarding its efforts to bring back the black money lying in foreign banks.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, had issued notices to the Centre and other government agencies on a petition, filed by former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani and others, seeking directions to the Government to take prompt steps to bring back the black money, amounting to over Rs 50 lakh crore, fraudulently stashed away by tax evaders.

The Government, in its earlier affidavit, had informed the apex court that all possible efforts were being made to get back the public money.

The apex court, which was dissatisfied over the affidavit, had directed the Government to file a fresh status report giving finer details of the progress made in the directions.
